Do you still lie to your parents?

November 28th 2006 00:50
I'm 26, I live with my partner and I find I still lie to my parents? Maybe because my parents have used guilt to bring me up?

Recently my mother called me and asked why I hadn't called or visited. To be honest I hadnt been bothered! So I made up some pathetic excuse that work has been extremely busy and I have had to stay back etc etc.

My mum still nags me about stuff so to make her happy, I lie! "Yes mum, yes I've done that! Yes mum, I'll call you when its done"

I don't think its ever going to end. Shes nagging me about getting married and my dad is nagging me to have a baby!!! I don't think the truth with my parents will ever go down well (

I do the same thing. In 2 weeks I will be 17 and I lie to my parents about liking them! Truth be told I can't stand my parents and something they will never know is how much they make me cry and can break me down!

They only break you down because you have a soft spot for them meaning you love them, they can hurt you emotionally more than most people which is a hard thing to accept you love them due to the pain they can bring. It frustrates me how your parents get angry when you don't do what they want, so in order for them to be happier you you lie and pretend and say what they want to hear. However I believe they partially know your lying to them and over time it becomes clearer until they no longer feel like they know you or trust you anymore, I think the best thing to do is clear up everything as it is already and try on a clean slate, just tell them the truth but explain why you lied in the first place giving them a reason and ultimately making them understand and sympathize with you. Either way it will be hard but worse lying in the long run.
